First Day In The You Kay

Well, I finally made it. After almost a year of anticipation I have graduated Queen's and am now living at a Castle. Yehah! The flight was delayed and long and I didn't sleep at all. I was priviledged to sit beside another student traveller and we chatted most of the flight. It was warm (10 degreees) when we got off the plane. Heathrow was crazy! Big and too many people. Interesting... ther seems to be lots of people with English accents in England. I'm enjoying listening to them though and now I get to be the one with the cool accent.

We ripped through the streets of London at break neck speeds. Our Taxi driver was so crazy he was driving on the wrong side of the road! (ha). After an hour and a half of me drifting in and out of jet legged unconsciousness we arrived in Hersmonceux. The pictures don't even begin to describe how beautiful it actually is. It has crazy turrets, a draw bridge and a moat! The moat is my favorite. There are always geese (Canadian!) swimming in it.

My room is an average residence room located in Bader hall. It is located about a 4 minute walk from the castle. I have a double bed, a bathroom and a TV. I have been enjoying watching the BBC as these brits have an interesting sense of humor. Unfortunately I do not have a shower. Fortunately, I have a bath tub! Yehoooo! Maybe ill get into taking bathes.... maybe not. I have to shower down the hall.

Today we went on a castle tour. There is lots to say about it so I will just say, it has narrow hallways, slanted ceilings, spiral staircases, red carpets, an amazing yard, big windows, cold floors, lots of doors facilitating getting lost and is really, really cool.

This evening we had some wine with some locals about 5 minutes from the castle. They were a couple of about 60 years and their names were Louise and Riker. They are fantastically generous and have an absolutely beautiful house. It was built in the 1730s sometime. It was great to chat with them as they told me stuff about the area as well as cricket. I'll have to try it someday.

I am working with two other Waterloo grads and one from Queen's. So far I'm having a great time with them and look forward to an amazing term.

That is all for now. I will try and post some pictures tmrw.
